Dr. Fatima Poonawala runs the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
We are geared to look after women in their journey from infancy to old age.
Young girls when they first start periods, the pattern is irregular, gets regular as the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis matures, then becomes infrequent and irregular again when ovarian function declines after 30 years, all expected in the journey. Sometimes, heavy painful periods are due to fibroids, hormonal imbalance. We are here to help distinguish normal from abnormal and treat accordingly.
All women have vaginal discharge, a good history and examination can help elicit the cause.
